2012 QJC Information
30 November 2011
The 2012 Queensland Junior Championships is to be held at the Gold Coast from 23rd June to 1st July.
As there are some new players showing interest in gaining selection into the Northern Region Redbacks Squad, the Northern Region committee has decided to make players and parents aware of some of what is involved with your child gaining selection.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact members of the committee and we will do our best to help you with your queries.
Cost
The approximate cost per child to attend will be $1500 to $1700. This cost includes travel to and from the Gold Coast, accommodation, meals (excluding lunch), uniforms and nomination fees for both the Individual Tournament and the Teams Tournament.
Extra spending money for lunches etc has not been budgeted for. There is a “free-day” between the Individuals and the Teams Tournaments where the players are allowed to go shopping etc at near-by shopping centres. This spending money will also have to be included in your child’s budget.
We do our best to keep the cost down as much as possible for the 9 days of the QJC, but this is still an approximate cost and is subject to change between now and June next year. A definite cost for each child will be given at the May Compulsory tournament.
Travel
All players from the various areas are to travel together to arrive at the Brisbane airport at a similar time. A bus will be booked to transport the team from Brisbane to the Gold Coast in on trip, so all players must arrive as close together as possible.
The courts where the tournament is being held is within walking distance from the accommodation and everyone is expected to use this opportunity as their “warm-up” and “cool-down” for the day.
Remember to TRAVEL LIGHT! There aren’t any fashion awards given out, so don’t pack two outfits for every day that you are there. (They also have washing machines for us to use at the units).
Accommodation
This has already been booked, but is limited. Boys are kept separate from girls and we do try to keep the Age Divisions together as much as possible. Players and “House Parents” are not told of who will be in their units until we reach the accommodation and placements will not be changed once announced.
With up to 5 coaches heading down with the squad, we will still require parents who are willing to be “House Parents” for the duration of the tournament. If you are planning to attend in this capacity, please let the committee know as soon as possible. You also need to be aware that you will be billed for your accommodation, travel etc.
Unfortunately, due to the limited number of beds available, parents who do not wish to be a “House Parent” or only want to attend for part of the tournament will have to make their own travel and accommodation plans.
It is compulsory for all players to stay with the squad for the duration of both the Individual and Team tournaments. There will not be any exceptions to this ruling.
Uniforms
It is compulsory for squad members to wear our Redback uniform during the Teams Tournament. Many of our players also wear them when playing in the Individual event which helps players to travel light.
It is advisable (but not compulsory) for each player to purchase two playing shirts and two pair of playing shorts.
Purchase of a travel shirt and track-suit jacket is also compulsory as they have to be worn when the players travel to & from the Gold Coast and on their “free-day”. These jackets are highly visible and allow coaches, parents and juniors to easily identify each other when in crowds (ie Brisbane airport and shopping centres). The jackets are also to be worn to and from the courts each day mainly for warmth, but also again for easy identification.
It is our intention to have each child’s uniform order already completed prior to the Compulsory Tournament held in Mackay in May. This does not mean that you child has gained selection into the squad, but is a means of stream-lining the ordering process of the past which was done at the conclusion of the May Compulsory Tournament after the squad had been announced. This will guarantee that if your child is successful, they will have their uniforms delivered to them in time for the QJC.
If your child would like their name or nick-name (within reason) on their shirt, it must be included on the order when submitted.
Paperwork
There does seem to be a lot involved when your child gains selection and we do try to keep it to a minimum, but it is important to complete and return as soon as possible.
Payment
Fees are due to be paid no later than 16th June, 2012.
The Northern Region committee would like to wish each junior competing for selection into the Redbacks Squad the very best and look forward to seeing them compete and enjoy the great game of Squash. For queries contact email:
