Launched in 2011, the inspiring World Squash international promotional initiative, called the World Squash Ambassadors Programme, annually takes two leading squash players, together with an international coach and referee, into younger squash nations to help raise the sport’s profile – through clinics, exhibition matches, refereeing and coaching seminars, and media presentations.
It creates an opportunity to support nations by meeting and interacting with players, officials and media in the countries. The squash family is worldwide, and World Squash relishes the chance to spend a little time with these family members to not only support them, but learn more about their issues and avenues.
The World Squash Ambassador Programme first visited the Baltic country of Latvia in 2011, followed by a trip to the African countries of Malawi and Namibia, then Panama and Venezuela in 2013, before in 2014 journeying to Papua New Guinea. In 2015 the programme went to Serbia, Romania and Croatia; China and Macu in 2016, Armenia and Ukraine in 2018 and Kenya in 2019.
